Eight Indian sailors who were on board the vessel Skylight during an attack linked to Iran have safely returned to Maharashtra, bringing relief to their families. The incident, which took place earlier this month, left the crew stranded and in distress before they were eventually moved to Oman.
Upon their return, the sailors were advised by the Directorate General of Shipping to arrange their onward journey, with assurances of reimbursement for travel expenses. However, the emotional and psychological impact of the incident appears to be significant. Many of the returning crew members have stated that they do not wish to go back to sea, citing safety concerns and the fear experienced during the attack.
The situation highlights the risks faced by seafarers operating in conflict affected regions, especially amid rising tensions in key maritime routes. The attack and its aftermath have raised concerns about the safety of Indian workers employed in international shipping and the need for stronger protective measures.
The safe return of the sailors marks the end of a tense episode, but their reluctance to sail again reflects the lasting impact such incidents can have on individuals and their families.
