The Bar Council of India has suspended the license of advocate Samarth Singh from legal practice with immediate effect following serious allegations connected to the death of his wife, Twisha Sharma. The decision came after authorities registered an FIR involving charges related to alleged dowry death, cruelty, and other associated offences.
According to the Bar Council, the allegations are grave in nature and negatively impact the dignity and public image of the legal profession. The organization also stated that Singh has allegedly been absconding and is not cooperating with the ongoing investigation being conducted by authorities.
Samarth Singh, a graduate of the National Law School of India University, enrolled as an advocate in 2018. Reports further stated that he recently withdrew his anticipatory bail application before the Madhya Pradesh High Court, expressing willingness to surrender before the trial court. The High Court also reportedly issued notice on a plea seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to his mother, former district judge Giribala Singh.
Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former Miss Pune winner residing in Noida, was found dead at her husband’s residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Reports suggest that the couple had met through a dating application before getting married.
The case has generated significant attention across legal and social circles, with many demanding a transparent and thorough investigation. Discussions around dowry-related violence, accountability, and the ethical responsibilities of legal professionals have also intensified following the Bar Council’s action.
