India and UAE Strengthen Energy Partnership with Major Strategic Crude Oil Storage Agreement

India and the United Arab Emirates have signed a significant strategic energy agreement aimed at strengthening long-term energy security and deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Under the agreement, Abu Dhabi will store up to 30 million barrels of crude oil in India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), providing both nations with enhanced energy stability during periods of global uncertainty.
The announcement came after high-level discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi. The leaders focused on expanding cooperation across energy, trade, investment, and regional security at a time when geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to rise.
Officials said the agreement will help India improve emergency oil availability while also allowing the UAE to strengthen its strategic presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing energy markets. Apart from crude oil storage, the two countries also discussed expanding collaboration in gas reserves, LPG supplies, renewable energy projects, and infrastructure investments.
Defence cooperation and regional security were also key topics during the talks. Both nations expressed interest in increasing strategic coordination and economic partnerships amid evolving global challenges.
Experts believe the agreement marks another important step in the growing India-UAE relationship, which has expanded rapidly in recent years through trade deals, investment partnerships, and energy cooperation. Analysts say such long-term arrangements can help India reduce risks linked to global oil supply disruptions while strengthening its overall energy preparedness.
